Focus on fostering quick dis-assembly and easy access to "critical components". Common denominator of the R-strategies: disassembly is needed to apply all of them.
Steps
- Identify critical components
- A component is called critical when the functioning of the product relies on it. The failure of a critical component would lead to the failure of the product.
- A component is critical when it has high economic value, mass and/or remaining useful lifetime.
- A component is critical when it has high embodied environmental impact.
- Establish the dis-assembly map of the product
- Apply Surfacing, Clumping or Trimming strategy to the map to better access critical components
